In most fantasy cricket formats your captain earns 2× points and your vice-captain 1.5×. That makes the captain the single biggest decision in your team.

Start with the role

All-rounders and top-order batters are the safest captains because they can score in more than one way: runs, wickets, catches. A tail-ender who bowls four overs has fewer chances.

Read the conditions

  • Flat pitch, small ground: lean towards top-order batters.
  • Green or dry, turning pitch: a strike bowler or spinner can be the call.
  • Dew expected in the evening: the team chasing often has the easier time batting.

Check the toss

Teams are usually announced at the toss. Confirm your captain is in the playing XI before the match starts, when teams lock.

Different from the crowd

If almost everyone picks the same captain, a strong second option can help you climb the leaderboard. In free contests, try it and see what works.
