When teams finish level on points, net run rate (NRR) usually decides who goes through. It measures how quickly a team scores compared with how quickly it concedes.
The formula
NRR = (runs scored ÷ overs faced) − (runs conceded ÷ overs bowled)
Overs are counted as balls: 10.3 overs is 10.5 overs in the calculation, because it is 10 overs and 3 of 6 balls.
The all-out rule
If a team is bowled out before its full quota, it is counted as having faced the full quota of overs. That stops a team from benefiting by being bowled out quickly.
Why it matters
Winning big — or losing narrowly — moves NRR. That is why late-season matches are often about the margin, not just the result.
